Play United: Empowering Teachers to Advance Inclusive Sports Education

16 October 2026

The ASA Foundation, in partnership with Decathlon Foundation, successfully conducted the first Play United Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop at Poltekkes 1 Jakarta, bringing together 30 Special Education (SLB) teachers from across Jakarta, comprising 60% female and 40% male participants.

The two-day workshop aimed to strengthen teachers' knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in delivering safe, inclusive, and engaging sports activities for children with disabilities.

Through interactive discussions, collaborative learning, and hands-on training, participants explored key topics including disability inclusion, adaptive sports, health awareness, life skills development, gender equality, and safe and inclusive coaching practices.

The practical sessions focused on inclusive football, basketball, and volleyball, where teachers learned to adapt activities, equipment, rules, and communication methods to accommodate students with diverse abilities. Through micro-coaching and reflection, participants also developed approaches to promote teamwork, communication, confidence, mutual respect, and equal opportunities for participation.

As part of the wider Play United programme, these trained educators are expected to support inclusive sports opportunities for 1560 male and female students with disabilities across Jakarta.

By strengthening teachers' capacity, Play United seeks to create sustainable opportunities for children with disabilities to participate in sport, develop essential life skills, and experience a greater sense of belonging within their school communities.

This first workshop marks an important milestone in the collaboration between ASA Foundation and Decathlon Foundation, reinforcing our shared commitment to disability inclusion, gender equality, and equal access to sport for all.

Together, we continue working towards a future where every child, regardless of ability or gender, has the opportunity to play, learn, and thrive.
